It’s not as basic as it looks, but one task that pretty much anyone can do on their house is painting. Based on how long you have lived in your house, and how long it has been since it was painted, you will understand how difficult the job will be. If you make the time to do it, you can save a great deal of money. If you lack the time, but you have the money, you can hire someone to make it happen.

Prepare the Wall

Ultimately the coloring on your wall will start to peel or perhaps warp and look ugly. As it happens, your single option might be to scrape the paint off your wall. If your home might be very old, it is likely that you may have several coats of paint underneath. It can be a lot more tedious if the layer of paint below was oil-based. Once the peeling paint has been stripped off, you need to plug any holes in the wood with putty or spackle parts of your drywall and sand it down as best you can. When this is completed, wipe off the dust, and let it get completely dry. You may want to allow it to sit for 24 hours before you start painting.

Check for Moisture

There could be a problem with dampness build-up if you live in an older home. You may find paint splits if your home has excessive condensation or leaks. It is prevalent in the bathrooms where there is increased moisture along with mold and mildew. Though normally observed in the bathroom, you could have this problem in other parts of your house. Occasionally your house will have a leak, or bushes that are too close. If your paint happens to be cracking as a result of moisture build-up, you will need a different solution. If the paint cracking is inside, you will need to make a solution of one part bleach and three parts water to stop the mildew buildup. If it is outside the home, merely use the solution that comes with a pressure washer.

Choosing a Color

Whenever the paint on your residence is starting to fade, that is also a good time to repaint. This happens most often outside the home where there is direct sunlight nearly for the whole day. To reduce fade, avoid using bright colors like red for your home. If you want colors that feature prominently, try ones that are golden or with a ruddy tone.

You should never let your home end up in lousy shape. You need to take some time to repaint every few years and repair any leaks once they happen.
